"Battle of Ballinfoile" 2-4-2024 EVENT INFORMATION Promoter: Contact Pete Foley SCHEDULE: Doors Open At: 3:00 PM Fight Begins At: 4:00 PM Battle of Ballinfoile: Results "Battle of Ballinfoile" RESULTS Fantastic evening of K-1/Kickboxing at the Ballinfoile Community Centre on Sunday. Some great fights and some serious matchmaking with some of the fights going right down to the wire. Controversy too though in the main event as Ballybane Kickboxer Corey O Malleys bid to become IKF Pro-Am European Lightweight K-1 Champion on Sunday ended up a controversial non contest. O Malley, who fights out of the Black Dragon Gym, started the contest at an electrifying pace and dominated his French opponent Aidan Scohy in the opening round. The French man fired back in the second round and it looked like being a classic encounter between two well matched athletes but just over mid ways through the round, an accidental clash of heads opened a nasty cut on Scohys head and after careful examination, the ringside physician Dr Sylvia Samuels decided to call a halt to the proceedings. Scohy was taken to UCG Hospital where he received eight staples to seal the wound. As the fight had not gone past two full rounds, it couldn’t go to the score cards so the referee had no choice but to call a non contest. A rematch is on the cards but will not happen for several months and hopefully it will happen once again in Galway. Limericks favourite son, Tyrone Cronin O Brien was Co Main event and he faced teak tough Belgian champion, Llario Varley for the European light Welterweight K-1 belt. The young Belgian caught Tyrone with a straight right hand in the second round and the Limericks man’s knees buckled and he was given an 8 count. O’ Brien recovered well and came back to win the next 3 Rounds and won the title by unanimous decision. 48-46, 48-46, 48-46. Galway’s Liam Tobin lost a close decision to Carlows Fionn Heslin after 3 hard rounds. 28-29, 28-29, 29-29. Galway’s Éamonn O Byrne and Carlows Martynas Jagutis went 5 hard rounds for the IKF Irish Super Lightweight K-1 title but the judges couldn’t separate them and it ended in a draw. 47-58, 48-48, 50-45. Galway’s Oisin Concannon and Hicham Zerrouki had a blistering 3 round war in the first International of the evening with Concannon taking a unanimous decision. 29-27, 29-27, 29-28. Galway’s Sean Murray scored a first round stoppage over Nathan Czapczynsji with some text book boxing. Czapczynshi is medically suspended for 30 days due to the stoppage. Galway’s Darren Van Strien and Shannon’s Éamonn Markham fought 5 hard rounds for the Jnr Bantamweight Irish K-1 title but once again, the judges decided on a draw. 48-48, 49-48, 48-48. Galway’s Evelyn Coffey and Shona Mc Grath from Shaolin MMA thrilled the audience with a riveting pace that earned them fight of the night status but Coffey took the nod on this occasion. 30-28, 30-38, 29-27. Galway’s Mohamed Chakib & Olaf Kacak from Ennis had another great battle with Chakib taking the judges decision. 30-28, 30-27 & 30-27. Giulia Comini from Galway lost a close call to Carlows Kady Shaw. 28-29, 28-30, 28-30. Anesu Havsdi from Limerick Hub took on and defeated Shaolin MMA fighter Adrian Brzozowski. 30-28, 30-28, 30-27. Galway’s Sam Esmat had a RIP roaring 3 rounder with Kilkenny man Patrick Larkin and even though Sam was dropped in the second round, he did enough in the first & third to take the win. 29-27, 28-28, 29-27. Galway’s Dylan Cantwell took the win over Limericks James Hartney. 20-18, 20-18. Coady Walsh from Galway and Ballinasloes Thomas Silke fought an exhibit bout which resulted in a draw. Galway’s Colm Perry took the win over Anthony Conway from Shannon. 20-18, 20-18, 20-19.
